Description

So, this is a project I've been working on for the past few months: drawing up a deck plan of a (fictional) ocean liner.

The Oriona Zvezda/Ориона Звезда (Orion Star) is an medium sized ocean liner built in the early 20th century. She was used to carry passengers and emmigrants from Russia, Japan, and other parts of Europe to the Americas. However unlike other ocean liners at her time, her entire 5 passenger decks cartered to mostly wealthy First and Second Class passengers rather than Steerage (or Third Class).

Pictured above are Deck A and B, specifically reserved for passenger use.

A Deck, or also known as Promenade Deck is the longest deck on board, running uninterrupted from stern to stem. Forward bow open promenade is reserved for Third Class passengers, which can be reached by the staircase houses accessible from B (Shelter) Deck below. First Class enclosed upper promenade was right next to it, being the larger space of the two promenades reserved for First Class. Accommodations were placed on forward, with six sets of luxurious En Suite rooms and two Parlor Suites which includes adjacent bathrooms. Standard cabins were also provided.

Aft from the accommodations area are the Reading and Writing room which encased around the dome that topped off the dining room below. First Class stairwell lobby/entrance was located right next, providing access to the two sets of elevators and gilded staircase.

The Lounge was one of the largest rooms on the ship, capable of being converted into a ballroom should the need arise. Passengers who wished to have a round of drinks, card games, and gambling could make use of the Card Room and Bar, and the luxurious Smoking Room aft of the Lounge. A second staircase provided easy access to B Deck below so passengers wouldn't have to round all the way to the bow. Aft of the First Class area were several cabins, along with Palm Court, a sunny retreat for passengers who whised for a more lighter atmosphere from the Smoking Room and Lounge's heavily paneled and carpeted decor.

Aft of the Promenade Deck was the aft deck house, accommodating Second Class areas which includes the Entrance hall, Second Class Lounge/Social Hall, and the Verandah Cafe, and also a wide expanse of promenading area for passenger use, stretching towards the stern of the ship.

B Deck, also known as Shelter Deck, serves as the point of entry for First and Third Class passengers. The Third Class public facilities were located on this deck, being the Smoking Room reserved for men, and the General Room which provided a sheltered and comfortable area for families and friends to gather and have fun. Third Class passengers could also enjoy the sectioned off enclosed promenade area provided just for their use.

Dominating the midships of the deck and surrounded by a narrower promenade are First Class cabins and suites, also houses the purser's office and the Upper Dining Room, decorated with gold leaf and finest mahogany and dark oak, with a well looking over to the lower dining room below. Two small rooms reserved as children's dining area were prepared forward of the upper dining room, flanking the First Class pantry area.

Some of the suites included on this deck are the six En Suite rooms, significantly larger than their counterparts on A Deck, and two Apartment De Luxe: the most expensive room a First Class passenger could offer. It was equipped with a master bedroom and an adjacent smaller bedroom, with en-suite bathroom, a wardrobe room, a sitting parlor, and a dining space complete with a pantry area.
Second Class space took most of the stern section, housing several airy, significantly larger cabins, a tastefully decorated Smoking Room, a barber and hairdresser, complete with a Ladies Saloon, which was equipped with a writing and reading room for use.
