“Glad to see that there are some more volunteers coming up.” Said the floating Reuniclus while studying the two Pokémon in front of her. “Most of the citizens have either fled or joined with the Hunters or Explorers. Shame that only a few decided to help us Researchers.” She said, shaking her head slowly. “Well, I am Chelle, Head Professor from the Researcher Guild.”

“Good day to you too, miss Chelle.” Jim said politely, tipping his head down slightly while sending a sideway glance to his Vaporeon companion, urging him to do the same.

“Er- Good afternoon.” Leo followed uncertainly.

This somehow brightens Chelle a bit. “Well, you seem to be the smart ones, unlike the others who doesn’t seem to get the basics of manners.”

“Pardon me, miss. How could we be of assistance?” Jim asked with a slight smile.

A few set of large, spherical disks with three spikes adorned on one side floated in front of the Zigzagoon. “These are specially made receiver nodes which you will attach to the golem’s blind spots. The other team of Researchers are currently assembling a signal jamming device in the city outskirts. Once you have attached these nodes, we will just wait for my subordinates to activate the device and the statue will stop on its rampage. Call it calming down the golem if you will.”

Leo looked at the nodes apprehensively. They looked rather heavy. “Wait. Where are these blind spots actually?”

“I suspect that they are on the front side of the statue, somewhere on the sides of its six eye-like gemstones, and on the statue’s backside.” Jim explained with a thoughtful look on his face. “You can’t really see the sides of your face or your backside without help, can you?”

Chelle looked impressed. “Well, I guess we’ve got some intelligent ones here. Yes, the blind spots are on the places you have mentioned. I will personally oversee this operation and will provide temporary cover should the matter get out of hand. Now, let us hurry. We don’t have much time. The Explorers have managed to draw the statue to the edge of the city.”

“Right. Let’s go.” Jim nodded as Chelle floated off towards the rampaging statue, taking the nodes along the way. It was not long before Leo turned to the Zigzagoon and asked, “What was that all about?”

“Oh. She’s the type of Pokémon who appreciates intelligence and manner.” Jim said, dropping his professional, polite tone. “It’s best to get on her good side than her bad side.”

Leo blinked. “Alright…”

The sounds of explosions and attacks went louder as the two dashed nearer to the statue.  Ruined buildings flanked their right and left. Leo paled slightly when they finally got a good view of the golem. “W-Wait. You expect me to climb that thing?! Are you outta your freaking mind?!”

Jim only gave an odd smile in return, which didn’t reassure the Vaporeon in the slightest.

“Miss Chelle.” Jim started, adopting the tone again while dodging a rain of rubbles when the statue slammed onto a building. “ Where are the others?”

The Reuniclus turned her head towards a Meowstic and a Ghastly with a Hoppip floating overhead. They had the nodes on them. “There. Hmm… they’re slower than I expected. Well, here you go.” Chelle said, handing Jim and Leo the nodes each. Surprisingly, they are quite light despite their size. Picking up the two nodes with his paw, Jim nodded at Chelle. “We’ll be on our way, Miss Chelle.”

“I’ll cover you from here.” Chelle replied.

“Come, Leo.” Jim said, sprinting towards the city’s exit. The said Vaporeon sighed loudly before following the eccentric Zigzagoon.

***

The Guardian Statue had decided to switch to close ranged combat when it’s out of its fire power, but it doesn’t mean that it had been weakened. It somehow had gotten stronger, each punch packed more power than before. Tristan didn’t think that he had to revert to defensive. His attacks were doing nothing against the statue. The ground shook as the giant golem punched the spot where the Honedge wielding Frogadier was before he slammed Luke aside. Tristan concentrated his built up energy to his wings which were quickly covered with metallic-like energy and charged towards the statue, slashing it below above its knees. As expected, it made little to no damage at all and the attack only made the statue angrier. With a series of weird beeps, the golem reared its arm and thrusts it towards the Prinplup. Tristan barely made it out from being a Prinplup Pancake.

“This thing is impossible.” He panted, cancelling the Metal Claw. “We’re getting nowhere fighting it… I need to finish this fast.”

There was a loud boom as a huge, extremely pressurized torrent of water shot out from the ground, whacking the statue head on before a second one slammed it again right on its head, sending the statue flying out from the city walls into the forest. Tristan fell on his knees as he felt his vision blurring slightly. Hydro Pump, though powerful, is extremely difficult to control, let alone doing it twice in a row. There was a boom of thunder as the Prinplup saw a gloved arm stretched out in front of him.

“Are you alright, sir?” Luke asked, concern in his voice.

“Just… peachy." The Prinplup groaned out. "And please don’t call me sir.” Tristan said, grabbed the Swampert’s arm and stood up shakily.

Luke raised an eyebrow. “You did good there, mate. Just rest here for a while before joining into the fight again.”

“Alright.” Tristan nodded. He was out of energy, really. “Have you seen my partner?”

“The Shinx? He’s with Cassidy.” The Swampert answered. “Uh-oh. Now it comes back again.” He groaned as the Guardian Statue slowly stood up. Three of its dots have lit up by now. “We’re running out of time…”

As Tristan watched the Guild Leader dashing towards the staute, a couple of Pokemon appeared into view. There was a Lucario with a Honedge strapped to his back and a Spritzee hot on his tail. Then, there were a couple of Pokémon holding a bunch of odd looking disks. All of them appeared to be charging towards the statue.

“Whoa, whoa. I didn't recall calling for reinforcements.” Tristan heard Luke said as he approached the group.

“We are with the researchers.” Said a female Meowstic, pointing to the Gastly, Hoppip, Zigzagoon, and an oddly familiar Vaporeon. “Orders from Chelle.”

Luke blinked. “And what about you?”

“We’re going to assist you in the fight.” The Lucario said smoothly, grabbing the hilt of the Honedge.

“Kara told us to keep the statue away while the rest of the hunters evacuate the area.” The Spritzee added. Luke didn’t looked convinced.

“Awright… but-“ the Swampert shook his head. “Let’s go.” He said, leading the group into the more forested area.

“Captain!”

Now Tristan knew why the Vaporeon is familiar. He had seen him almost every day. And it’s not everyday that Leonard O’Seinn sported a concerned look on his face whenever the crew of the Aquila came into the Medical Centre with various wounds or symptoms of illness. It was usually a look of displeasure or an odd glint that could be compared with a mad scientist. The Chief Medical Officer was certainly concerned with Tristan right now.

“I’m fine, O’Seinn.” Tristan said before the Vaporeon could take out a stethoscope. “Hydro Pump took out a lot from me.”

“That doesn’t mean that you’re completely fine, Tristan!” Leo said with an annoyed growl.

Tristan sighed. “Well, I think I have a cracked rib and a dislocated shoulder.” He said, and quickly spoke again when Leo started to rummage through his medical bag. “But nothing a potion could take care off.”

“Well, you’re still going to the med bay after this whole trouble is over, Captain! Potions do not solve every single injury!” the Vaporeon growled.

Jim gave Tristan a long look. “Your captain is fine now, Leo. Give him a couple of minutes to rest and he’ll be fine. So don’t dawdle now. Chelle won’t be happy.” He said, dragging the spluttering Vaporeon with him. Tristan blinked at the odd scene before slumping down to the ground, exhausted.

I really need to get in action more.” He thought, thinking back to the fight. “I can’t believe I tired out this fast. Maybe I should take the offer to spar with Tor and Keagan in the future.

***

“Now where are we supposed to attach these again?” Leo asked once they got a couple of good feet closer to the statue.

“It’s front and back.” Jim answered, giving Leo the disks. “You can climb, right?”

Leo glared. “Of course I can! But I’m not as young as I was. Mind giving me a hand?” he added, standing on his hind legs and clutching the nodes using his front paws. The ground shook again as the statue tried to smash the Explorers to dust.

Jim seemed to have turned deaf for a second, because he stared blankly at the statue. Silently analyzing it, blatantly ignoring Leo’s waiting look. Lightning streaked across the sky and thunder flashed, illuminating the area for a fraction of a second. Jim blinked when lightning flashed above them again, turning to look at the Vaporeon. “Change of plans. Here, give me the nodes.”

Leo looked questioningly when he handed Jim the node. “What are you planning now?”

“Take off your coat.” Jim said suddenly.

Leo stared at the Zigzagoon incredulously. “Wait what?”

“Take off your coat.” Jim repeated. “I’m going to Fling you to the statue. Chances of it noticing you while you were climbing it are 86.89%. The only way is to throw you at a closer range.”

Leo blinked. “You’re off your rocker.”

Jim growled. “Oh, shut up! Just take off your coat and hold these things upright!” He shouted, moving the nodes on Leo’s arm so that the spikes were facing his paws. Before stripping the Vaporeon off his coat. He then took the second node from the Vaporeon’s arm. “I’ll follow you shortly. Don’t let go of them.”

“Wait! I’m not AAAAAAH!” the water type screamed as Jim dragged him across the field towards the statue and somehow flung him towards the statue’s backside. The Vaporeon landed on the leafy portions of the golem, snagging on a couple of vines and leaf, which acted like a safety net, preventing him from falling down.

“Someday, I’m going to kill that crazy psychopath.” He grumbled and proceeded to attach the nodes on the white smooth surface. The spiked disk attached like glue immediately. “Now where is that damn Zigzagoon?”

“Enjoying the view up there, doctor?” Jim asked, appearing just below the Vaporeon’s left side. Leo jumped slightly.

“How did you get here so fast?”

“I suggest leaving your post, now, doctor.” Jim said, ignoring the Vaporeon’s question, again, nodding at a group of Pokémon that carried a bunch of heavy looking crates led by a blue scarf-clad Sandshrew. Leo identified a timid looking Amaura with a young looking Marshtomp with the group. Why did they always ask kids for help is beyond the Vaporeon’s thoughts.

“Who are they?” Leo asked.

“The other Researchers. They are going to build the transmitter. Let go now.” Jim said, releasing his hold on the leaves as the statue moved to stomp the Explorers again. Leo nearly lost his holding if not for the statue stopping for a moment. Slowly, he climbed down the vines and leaves, getting himself ridden with the statue’s moss and leaves before jumping down to the ground, only to see an empty, Zigzagoon free battle-ridden field. There was another boom of thunder when the rain finally fell.

“Great. Now where is he?” he mumbled, scanning the vacant grass field, shielding his eyes from the rain with his paws.

A voice suddenly spoke beside him. “He’s gone, you know. He always does that; taking off suddenly without a word. Like his brother.”

Leo turned around. A sharply dressed female Linoone stood to his left, a fancy looking umbrella was on her paws, protecting her from the droplets of rain that started to fall. She was quite tall with beautiful but striking features. Her eyes were a bright shade of Lapis Lazuli and her fur was properly groomed. The Linoone was definitely from the Nobility, or something alike.

“Who are you?”

“An interested party.” She replied calmly.

Leo frowned. “Interested in-“ He blinked as a thought ran through his head. “Look, I’m flattered and all, but I’m not really looking into relationships.”

A slight smile crept up the Linoone’s lips. “ You got it the wrong way, doctor.” She said. “I’m interested in your…friend.”

“What? That hyperactive Zigzagoon?” Leo cocked his head slightly. The Linoone only gave him a pointed look.

Jim seemed to realize something. “…I’m guessing that you’re not a fan of his.”

“How many ‘friend’ do you imagine he has, let alone a fan?” The Linoone raised an eyebrow whilst smiling rather oddly. “Although, I think he already has a fan, albeit one. No, I am the closest thing to a ‘friend’ that James has.”

“Care to tell?”

“I’m his sister.” The Linoone replied with a slight roll of her eyes, as if it was obvious.

Leo’s mouth formed into a comical ‘O’. He coughed awkwardly. “Right. Er… Sorry ‘bout that.”

“You’re not… scared.” It wasn’t a question. More like a statement.

The Vaporeon doctor shrugged. “I’ve seen worse things. Well, why are you here? If you want to talk to Jim- I mean, James, you could just see him in his flat.”

“We have a rather…difficult relationship.” She cocked her head slightly, ears twitching.

There was a log silence.

“We will be meeting again, doctor. Perhaps sooner than you expected.” She said before turning around and walking towards the city. “Do be careful around James, would you? He tends to attract… the wrong sort of people around him. Especially when he’s excited.”

“You shouldn’t worry, ma’am.” Leo replied, watching as the female Pokémon disappears from sight. The Vaporeon lifted his head to the sky. The rain was still going and it seems that it would be a storm soon. Leo looked back down and turned his head sideways when he heard a familiar pitter-patter of foosteps running though the ruined cobble stone path. There was a series of booms and another series of flashes and sounds of various attacks in the distance. Then, the ground shook violently before there was a bright flash of light. And all was silent.

A cheer erupted from the distance.

Leo sighed in relief. It seems that they have managed to stop the statue at last. Looking back at the city, the Guilds will have a lot work to do. The damage was extensive.

“There you are, lad!” someone cried. Leo turned around. Chief Engineer Markus stood a few feet across him, his fur was completely drenched, and his red and white uniform was soaked with the rain. “Come on, don’t just stand there! The Captain’s calling everyone to the Yacht!”

Leo blinked. “Now?”

The Zigzagoon nodded. “Aye, lad. Now!”

***

Unlike how Leo had left the small, silver colored ship, the Yacht had been halfway fixed when he and Markus arrived. It’s now resting on its landing gears, and most of its jets had been fixed. A large tarp had been drawn over the engines which casing had been opened. Markus led Leo through the cargo hold door. Various metallic crates and tubes were stacked on the walls, reaching into the ceiling, secured with steel bars and straps. They then entered a sliding door at the end of the large chamber into a long and brightly lit corridor. Everything here seemed to be made from metal and glass with a few touch of wood. Markus led them up a set of staircase into the second level where they turned into a corner and into a spacious and brightly lit room. Everyone was already inside, sitting around a long glass-like table.

Tristan was seated at the far end of the seat, facing the others directly. Tor sat on his left side, a wooden crutch lay beside his seat while the right side seat remained empty. Markus sat beside the empty right hand seat, just beside Natasha’s right side while Leo sat across the Zangoose.

“Alright. Everyone’s here, let’s start the meeting.” Tristan began, wincing slightly as he folded his wings. Leo was definitely going to have a look on that. “I’m afraid that I have a bad news to tell.”

This gained the attention of the away team, except Tor, who just closed his eyes and breathed softly. He looked worse for wear.

“Do any of you notice that something was off during our short shore leave in Andalusst?” Tristan asked the three of his crew. All three nodded. The Prinplup then nodded at Natasha, who began to recall the abnormalities she had encountered so far. It would seem that everything in Andalusst contradicts what they have in their data core. Tristan only listened quietly when the Kirlia finally finished.

“Right. Thank you, Ensign.” The Pinplup nodded. He then tapped the edge of the table where the whole black, reflective surface lit up with light blue line running through the edges and a familiar arrow shaped insignia with a sphere on the centre appeared and spun slowly. “Computer. Search for the latest satellite view of the current City of Andalusst.”

The spinning insignia disappeared and was replaced with a single, blinking word:

COMPUTING…

It was not long before grid lines filled the entire table-computer and a huge picture of a furutistic metropolitan city complete with skyscrapers and air ships floating around appeared. Everything looked to be built from metal and glass, with little vegetation here and there. The Kirlia gasped.

“Wait, if this is the real Andalusst, then why is the Andalusst outside is compleltey different?” Leo asked after staring at the map for a full minute.

In response, Tristan said, “Computer. Calculate the estimated layout of Andalusst approximately 435 years in the past.”

The map quickly disappeared and was soon replaced by a smaller, pre-industry sized town with ancient looking architecture and layout. Gone were the skyscrapers Everyone recognized the map instantly, staring at the screen in disbelief.

“Captain? What’s the meaning of this?” Markus asked, surprise evident on his face. “I’ve seen this layout when testing the Yacht if she’s sail-worthy up from the sky. How can-“

“Isn’t it obvious?” Tor spoke for the first time. “We are stuck four hundred and thirty five years in the past.”

“But how?” Leo asked after staring at the map for a full minute.

“I believe that the explanation had been given by Ensign Vetrov.” Tristan said, looking at the surprised Kirlia.

“I- I have?”

Tor groaned. “Oh for the love of- you were talking about some spatial and temporal anomaly back then.”

Natasha blinked, finally remembering her theory. “So I was right?”

“It would seem so.” Tristan nodded. “Now our real problems are we are completely cut off from the Fleet. They virtually didn’t exist in this timeline. Most of the things that we know are also different. Things have changed. Now, as we are cut off from our source of information and protection,”

“And our paychek.” Tor added dryly.

Everyone ignored the Shinx. “We needed to find something that could help us get out from this timeline. Fortunately, me and Tor had seemed to secure a space in the Explorers Guild. They are the seeds of the Fleet I think. We might come into something helpful during their explorations.”

Leo nodded. “And I think I could help.”

Tor looked at him inquiringly. “Care to tell us?”

The Vaporeon took a deep breath. “I have found an….acquaintance who is interested in joining the Researcher Guild. Their studies complete with our data bank might be helpful on finding what’s causing us to be teleported four centuries into the past. My medical expertise might also help.”

Tristan nodded approvingly. “And the rest of you?”

“I think I could stay with Mr. Simmons with the repairs, Captain.” Natasha said. “He would need all the help he need.” The Zangoose looked at the Kirlia with a mixture of approval and gratitude.

“Alright, so now that’s settled, I must give you one more warning.” Tristan looked at his crew pointedly. “Do not mention any kind of things that could reveal that we are from the future. It would be a huge violation of the regulations and we wouldn’t want to change the history, however bad it might be.”

Everyone in the room nodded at their Captain. There is no telling what might happen to their own timeline if they somehow changed the course of history. Tristan took a long last look at his crew before smiling. “I believe that we could find the cause of our problem in no time. It will be an adventure, I think. You’re dismissed.”

With that, the away team left the room one by one, thinking about their new predicament and the solution. As Tor nodded at Tristan, limping away from the room with his crutch, Tristan turned his back towards the computer table, mulling something. Something that had been nagging on his mind since he met with a Frogadier named Xiao Fon.

As the doors slid shut, Tristan looked on the blank screen for a few seconds before speaking, “Computer. Retrieve File AFCA/9043/HWA/Kogata, Tadashi. Password, TR1N0LN12X140. Put it up on screen.”

Almost immediately, the requested file opened and Tristan bent over to search on the millions and millions of files regarding the High Admiral of the Fleet. “Now, Fon of the Xiao Clan, what is your relationship with the Admiral….”

Ha! That ending was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed this 3-parter, very clever and humorous and thought out. Hopefully get to read more of these Teams as things continue.
